Our new name, The Vätten Company, was inspired by the Swedish word “vatten” which means “water”. And water purification is what we do best!
Vatten also means “to grasp” and “understand” in Dutch and underscores our acknowledgement and philosophy to celebrate the humans in our lives that seem to balance an untenable list of “to-dos” and still find the time and energy to invest in health and ensure their friends, families and pets have the cleanest water possible to bathe in, play in and drink.
Our company honors all the hardworking individuals that prioritize health and wellness.

Our Story
I was flying in a military aircraft over California admiring the lush growing fields below. As we approached for landing, the pilot began the common practice of lightening the aircraft in which fuel is dumped from the aircraft into the environment.
Thousands of pounds of jet fuel, which contains a sinister cocktail of toxins and carcinogens, were released into the environment.
This gave me tremendous pause. This was California, the food basket of America. And this was common practice. I couldn’t stop thinking about the potential contamination of the food and water.
The search for a good water filter for my family ended in disappointment as the average filter on the market did little more than remove chlorine. That’s when The Vätten Company was born (formerly Lakota Scientific). After almost 3 decades in the business, we see the need growing as more contaminants are found lurking in the water we play in, bathe in and drink.
Today, we are still a family-owned, woman-led business, and we pride ourselves on exceptional customer service and products. We offer ready-to-go solutions, or we can customize a filter for your specific needs.
Our Name
The Vätten Company, LLC was founded over 30 years ago under the name Lakota Scientific, Inc. out of the deep respect for the principles that guide the Native American culture: respect, kindness, generosity, wisdom and sustainability. For years, Lakota Scientific, Inc. was influenced through personal relationships and friendships with the Lakota People, and we continue to weave those values into every aspect of our business.
Times have changed, and we needed a new name to reflect the business we’ve built over two generations. Our new name, The Vätten Company, name was inspired by the Swedish word “vatten” which means “water”. And water purification is what we do best! Vatten also means “to grasp” and “understand” in Dutch and underscores our acknowledgement and philosophy to celebrate the humans in our lives that seem to balance an untenable list of “to-dos” and still find the time and energy to invest in their health, sustainability and make sure their friends, families and pets have the cleanest water possible to drink, bathe and play in. Our company honors all the hardworking individuals that prioritize health.
We have tried to simplify complex and confusing information about water contaminants and purification options into what it means for you, your family, friends and non-humans. This is the reason that we have grown our business almost entirely by referrals, and many of our customers have been with us our entire journey of almost 3 decades……and counting!
